The beginning of fasting in the second half of Sha’ban differs in its permissibility among scholars. The bottom line in this matter is that if a person has a habit of fasting, or had a vow to fast, or had to make up from the previous month of Ramadan, then there is nothing wrong with him if he fasted at the beginning, middle or end of Sha’ban.

As for the one who does not have a habit of fasting and nothing of the above mentioned, some scholars have mentioned that it is not prescribed for him to start fasting in the second half of Sha’ban, but if he connects it with fasting some of the first halves of Sha’ban, it is permissible for him to do so.
