Mycologist (mushroom expert) Jilber Barutçiyan, who is known for his book "Turkey's Mushrooms", which we reached for information about mushroom poisoning, touched on the distinction of poisonous mushrooms and said.

“It is absolutely impossible to distinguish between poisonous and non-poisonous mushrooms based on hearsay.

So there is absolutely no practical way, method, technique or any trick to tell whether the mushroom is poisonous or non-toxic at first sight.”

'THE WRONG INFORMATION YOU HEAR FROM RIGHT LEFT IS KILLING'

Stating that some of the information about the mushroom, which is accepted as true by the public, is extremely wrong, Barutçiyan said.

“The information such as white microdose mushrooms is non-toxic, non-poisonous if the animal eats it, and the mushroom with milk is non-poisonous.

Villagers know, they say, 90 percent of poisonings occur in rural areas. Some mushrooms are easily eaten by animals, but when people eat those mushrooms, they are poisoned.

Due to these false information and beliefs that you hear from right to left, there are already fatal mushroom poisonings," he emphasizes.

'There is no antidote for any mushroom that kills'

Stating that they consider mushrooms not as poisonous or non-toxic, but as deadly, poisonous and edible mushrooms, Jilber Barutçiyan states that even the slightest digestive problem can be considered poisoning.

“There are people who say, 'I had mild diarrhea, but it wasn't from a fungus, I didn't die', but in fact, these people aremushroom poisoninglives.

There are fungi that kill, and unfortunately there is no antidote to any fungus that kills. Supportive treatments are applied,” he says.

Stating that another type of mushroom is poisonous mushrooms, Barutçiyan said, “It doesn't kill you, but it creates various problems.

You stay in the hospital for a week, your digestion deteriorates,” he explains.

A VERY SMALL FUNGUS CAN EAT

Stating that a very small part of the mushrooms belong to the edible mushrooms group, Barutçiyan shares the following information:

"We also divide the edible mushrooms into certain sections. We have edible mushrooms with high economic value. You can trade them. Secondly, there are edible mushrooms, but their shelf life is very short, so this Mushrooms are not traded.

They spoil until you take them to the market. Apart from these, there are mushrooms that we can say whether you can eat them or not. They are not tasty.

A very large part of mushrooms are in the group of inedible mushrooms. There are such mushrooms that you can't even think of eating them because they smell bad.

Wood There are mushrooms that are so hard you can't eat them."
