What is the news updated about? 

This was updated on 27th April of 2023. The Australian Government announced an increase in the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) from $53,900 to $70,000 starting on July 1st, 2023. 

This is the first time the Australian government has changed the TSMIT in over a decade. This change shows that almost 90% of full-time jobs in Australia pay more than the current TSMIT, indicating that the current migration system is broken.

The change is expected to impact migrants significantly but may also benefit some workers in specific industries.

With those changes also, the government updated that Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) short-stream visa holders will have a direct pathway to permanent residency in Australia.
